POWERTANK XXL

More and more of the electronic gadgetry and other pieces of equipment get mobile and accompany us wherever we go. But whenever you travel in the open, you hardly ever know where and when you get the chance to charge your devices again. Stop being concerned by the power cuts – take the PowerTank XXL along with you and enjoy your little electronic helpers to the fullest!

The philosophy behind the PowerTank XXL

Whoever deals with several or larger electric consumers finally learns the fact, that their portable power supply quickly comes up against its limits. The main point about this subject may be the manufacturer’s misunderstanding of basic mobile power supply issues, or even the euphemistic behaviour to assure customers of device features, that simply can’t be realized on a physical basis. This is usually the time when a manufacturer comes up with “volts”, “ampere” and “watt-hours” blending them to facts John Doe can’t (and need not to) follow.

SIStech is not about to present you the perfect solution on that issue, because we believe, that there is no perfect solution yet. SIStech is about to offer you the best compromise possible so far.

And that’s how it looks like for the PowerTank XXL:

1. Dimensions and weight

This is probably the greatest trade-off, because a portable power supply has to deal with narrow acceptance limits regarding size, weight and energetic output. By performing extensive field tests SIStech finally made it to discover acceptable limits and decided to give the PowerTank XXL the dimensions and weight similar to a large chocolate bar (7.8 x 26.5 x 2 cm / 570 gr).

2. Output rating

We had to draw a line between acceptable and unacceptable electric consumers by defining netbooks as suitable and lightweight companions on the move and considering bulky laptops/notebooks as not relevant for that issue. Laptops usually demand a power input of up to 120 watts / 7 ampere, but this is in no way compatible to small and lightweight power supply units. Besides, there is no point to drag around heavy laptops if you can have a dirt cheap netbook for the most tasks you may need to perform on the road. Netbooks take around 40 watts and the ultramodern netpads that recently started flooding the market demand incredible 10 watts only.

3. Power output / electrical connection ports

Except for Laptops almost any mobile gadget can be powered or charged by the PowerTank XXL. For some of them you may need the peripherals provided. From now on you can have easy-to-use and highly adaptable access to more power for your netbook, iPad, webpad, iPhone, iPad, mp3-player, navigation system, digicam, camcorder, cellphone, illuminant, small battery charger or whatever portable gadget you may have to power or charge.

Two independent power outputs offering an 12-15 volts power socket (cigarette lighter socket) as well as an standard 5 volts USB socket make sure that you can handle a high variety of devices. Of course, both of the standalone sockets can be used the same time.

4. Recharging process / power input

As long as you have a constant current- as well a constant voltage feed, it is not a big deal to charge lithium ion accumulators by using appropriate recharge electronics. Once you have to rely on fluctuating current and varying power input conditions as it is the case while charging the PowerTank by a solar panel, the recharge job gets virtually impossible to be carried out.

To help solving that problem SIStech developed the new DPS electronics (Digital Power Scan). It’s a system that continuously analyzes the ongoing power input and adapts the recharge process to the measured values. Combined with the MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology the PowerTank XXL is capable of a quick and appropriate self-recharge at a mains voltage as well as a (slower recharging) solar cell to its full capacity.
